Pennsylvania State Delegation visiting Europe
Joseph Burke – Deputy Secretary PA Department of Community & Economic Development – and Lindsay Helsel – Director of International Initiatives, Team PA, accompanied by Patrizia Marani – Director of Italian Representative Office – have spent some days in Italy. Italy was the last stop of a European business outreach mission, designed to strengthen ties with European businesses and enhance foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pennsylvania.
Their trip began on May 23rd in Ireland and has continued for a total duration of almost two weeks including stops in Germany, Poland, Austria, and Italy. This morning the institutional delegation left back from Milan for the US.
During their stay in Italy, the delegation had the chance to meet with several Italian companies, mainly located in Bologna and Milan, to present the investment opportunities available for companies interested in establishing a business in the USA and strengthen relationships with the ones already operating in the State.
These companies operate in several industries: from hi-tech to pharmaceutical, transportation, and fashion. A particular focus was dedicated to agri-food cluster, which represents an important industry for both the Pennsylvania State and the Emilia-Romagna Region.
The seminar “The Italian agri-food industry meets Pennsylvania State” was held Monday, June 4th at Fico Foundation and was participated by many local companies operating in agri-food and other related industries such as packaging and export, and by several local authorities.
Pennsylvania is home to 3.600 foreign companies, with a total of 334.200 employees. Italy ranks 16th for the number of companies in PA, which are 85 up to today, and 20th for the number of employees, which are more or less 2.800.
Important local realities stand out among the Italian companies in PA, such as Fresc-co, Drs Laurel Technologies, and Datalogic. The most important industries for FDI are: life science, industrial, plastics, ICT & Electronics, Food & Beverage processing.
Bees Communication, Italian Representative office of the American State, took charge of the whole visit organization: from the delegation agenda, to contacts with local companies and institutions and of course the event organization. Bees Communication is at Italian companies’ disposal to provide information about the investment opportunities and benefits offered by PA State and to support every company’s internationalization process.
